Looking Sharp for interviews
They say the outward signs are a reflection of the inner workings... so how does that affect you in an interview
In times of change and uncertainty, it's important to look your best, especially at interviews and if you're keen to keep your job. It may seem unfair but it's been seen statistically that "beautiful" people often do better than those who don't look after their appearance. It's not always the case, but in many jobs people deal with people and like to feel respected. Have you been working with someone who clearly doesn't iron their shirts properly.. It makes you wonder about their attention to detail.
It's just an opinion of the "English Colonel", who writes on tailoring and after 30 years of working in the City, is clear that you can tell who will succeed not by the peacock but in the detail. It certainly made for an interesting conversation over lunch, as we watched the City Investment Bankers and lawyers. Success and deemed success seem to attract success. It certainly made us think.
A recruitment consultant "Henry" remarked about the state of our shirts, shoes, and suit a few years ago, and it was true the small details did catch the eye. Maybe not to everyone but when it counts it doesn't hurt.
So, if you're looking to get yourself hired into a successful industry on a good salary, our advice would be act and be the person they want to hire.. and make sure you fit the mold (of course once you're hired you can always break the mold..) Just a thought..
